Dan Greenawalt, a co-creator of Forza and co-founder of Turn 10 Studios, has decided to retire from Microsoft after nearly 27 years. According to an internal memo from Playground Games studio head Trevor Williams, Greenawalt considers this the right time to leave the company.
He will remain temporarily as an adviser during the handover. Microsoft announced plans in September to combine Turn 10 and Playground Games, the teams behind Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon respectively. Following the 2023 Motorsport reboot, Turn 10 was turned into a support studio for Forza Horizon.
Williams credited Greenawalt with helping ship Project Gotham Racing for the original Xbox in 2001 and highlighted his many appearances on Xbox’s E3 stage. The original Forza Motorsport launched in 2005, while the most recent entry in that branch of the racing series arrived in 2023.
