Nexus Mods announced updated generative AI rules on November 3. Authors uploading a mod must declare whether AI was used in its files or promotional materials. Mods labelled AI Assisted will need to identify the tools used and explain which AI outputs are present in the finished work.
Existing mods have a transition period ending January 2, 2027 for the new detailed statements and permission requirements. New uploads must complete the updated fields immediately. Repeated failure to comply after a staff notification can lead to account restrictions or removal from the platform.
The site is also developing more prominent labels, easier access to AI-content filters and separate permissions for AI training and mod forks, defaulting to asking the author. These changes will arrive in stages. AI-generated mods will remain welcome when they meet the platform’s rules.
