Patrick Stewart died on October 28, 2026, at the age of 86. His death was announced on October 29, and the official Star Trek and Paramount+ websites subsequently paid tribute. He became internationally known as Captain Jean-Luc Picard and as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films.
Before those roles, Stewart worked in theatre and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966. He first played Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, which began in 1987, and later returned to the character in feature films and Star Trek: Picard.
Stewart voiced Emperor Uriel Septim VII in the English version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. His game credits included narration in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and roles in Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos and Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, alongside appearances in Star Trek and X-Men games.
Star Trek Online players gathered to remember him. Fleets assembled in Earth orbit, while virtual torchlight vigils took place at Earth Spacedock and Starfleet Academy.
