Adam Driver has confirmed that he will play Otis Wardell, the main antagonist in Michael Mann’s Heat 2. The actor discussed his preparations for the follow-up to the 1995 crime film in a new interview. Driver previously worked with Mann on Ferrari and said he was excited to reunite with the director on the project.
Driver said he would join the production at the beginning of December, with his shooting starting at the beginning of next year. He clarified that the schedule change had been planned before Mann’s recent accident at a shooting range. Driver contacted the director immediately after hearing the news: Mann replied straight away and, according to the actor, was back at work the following day.
As part of Driver’s preparation, Mann plans to take him to locations around Los Angeles that relate to the script. Heat 2’s story takes place both before and after the original film. Driver described the screenplay as more condensed and streamlined than the novel, contrasting the book’s descriptive passages with the momentum of the screen version.
