Stranger Things prequel Other Worlds announced for 2028

Kate Trefry will lead the live-action series, with Joe Wright directing its first three episodes

On November 6, Netflix announced Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, a live-action prequel arriving in 2028. Set in the 1950s, the series takes place before the Hawkins group’s story and before Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the stage production set in 1959. Netflix released the first teaser alongside the announcement.

Kate Trefry will serve as showrunner, co-creator and writer. She has worked on Stranger Things since its second season and wrote The First Shadow. Joe Wright will direct the opening three episodes and executive produce the series. Production will take place in New Mexico. The Duffer brothers say casting is the next step for the project.

Shawn Levy describes a new ensemble adventure with its own characters, themes and mythology within the Stranger Things universe. Matt and Ross Duffer are executive producing through Upside Down Pictures, with Levy producing through 21 Laps. Paul Dichter, Shelley Meals, Andrea Sperling and Pavlina Hatoupis are also executive producers.
