Nintendo removed additional fast-travel points from its The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake that were absent from the original. Producer Eiji Aonuma initially proposed the shortcuts, then asked the team to remove them after playtests showed players were missing incidental discoveries along the way.
Aonuma also saw the remake as a way to pass experience on to younger Zelda developers. Many had only worked on more recent entries in the series. He hoped that studying Ocarina of Time's structure and rebuilding it would give the team insights to carry into future games.
Nintendo also wanted players accustomed to Breath of the Wild's open structure to experience an adventure with carefully paced character growth and storytelling. The Ocarina of Time remake launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
