Romero Games has signed with an unnamed publisher for a new, smaller shooter using its previous work, studio co-founder John Romero has confirmed. The game is designed for a team of 15–16 people, with ten former development sub-team leads returning to the studio.
After its previous funding ended, the studio shrank from 110 people to five. Romero designed a different, smaller game around material the team had already produced. Characters, art, weapons and portions of the code have carried over to the new project.
Romero says the studio retains full ownership of the name, intellectual property and development assets. Its new publishing partner leaves creative decisions to the team.
Romero considers the current team large enough for the planned scope and is working directly on the design in Unreal Editor.
